Description of the Product :

Graphite is a material know from years for its high Thermal conductivity and high Chemical resistance. Graphite plates manufactured by SHIVAM INDUSTRIES are impregnated with suitable thermosets to make it impervious. This impervious Graphite is a good conductor of Heat and its chemically inertness is based on impregnating thermosets that are used for impragnation of Graphite.

This Impragnated tiles are lined in the reactor in such a manner that all the chemical in the vessel come in contact with the Graphite tiles only. The Graphite tiles are so machined that while laying the same in the Reactor, all the  joints of the tiles becomes lap joints and the tiles gets inter-locked with each other.

The graphite lined reactor is suitable for working temperatures to the extrent of 150 degree centigrade.

Thus the product so made is highly reliable and has a long life.

Superiority in quality :

The graphite tile lined reactor made by SHIVAM INDUSTRIES, are incorporating technologies which are generally not adopted by others.

For example :

  1. The ground coat given to the reactor metal surface is finally of neutral material and gives good adhesion to metal as well as Graphite. This coat is also chemically resistive to many chemicals.
  2. The lap joint and other jointing systems of Graphite tiles in the reactor are superior in their own way as a known fact.
  3. The interlocking of the tiles with each other results in non-falling of tiles from their position.
  4. Re-working and lining system of the reactor gives void free lining in the Reactor.
  5. The chemically resistive resin based external tie-up process of Agitator and other parts gives long life and high reliability for moving parts of the Reactors.
  6. Other hidden process / raw materials used gives superiority in respect to quality and reliability of the lined reactors.
Process of Graphite lining Developed by SHIVAM INDUSTRIES :

The process of lining of reactor with Graphite tiles developed and adopted by SHIVAM INDUSRIES Can be described as under :

  1. Ground preparation.
  2. Ground coating.
  3. Backing materials laying and tile lining.
  4. Cleaning and checking for voids if any and refilling the same.
  5. Making the complete Reactor Void free.
  6. Testing the reactor.

GROUND PREPARATION

The steel surface of the reactor where Graphite lining is to be provided is washed with acids and provided with grinding if required to achieve oxide free pitted neutral surface. This surface achievement also involves at times sand blasting and other systems. The surface is necessary for obtaining the proper bonding of the ground material with metal.

GROUND COATING

The prepared surface is coated with ground coating materials by brushing and are allowed for curing by cross linking the polymers in the ground coat materials, This polymerization of the polymers on metal surface results in good’ adhesion of the ground coat materials with the metal. This coating is absolutely neutral and as such decaying of steel is avoided. The ground coat is necessary for getting good adhesion which results in increasing the capacity to absorb the heat shocks and mechanical shocks too.

BACKING MATERIALS LAYING AND TILE LINING

The backing materials are based with chemically resistive polymers that are resistive to most of the chemicals. The cements are Carbon / Graphite filled and are mixed with the polymers in appropriate proportions and laid on the ground coated surface. The Graphite tiles are than laid, pressed the interlocked with each other in such a manner that no air pockets are left out on the back side of the tiles and all the joints are well covered with the proper cements. The joints in the lining are staggered to achieve further more reliability for absorption of heat shocks.

CLEANING CHECKING AND FILLING OF VOIDS.


The lined rector is cleaned for removal of excess cements on the joints by grinding and chipping and is manually checked for any open voids leftout by  chance. Incase any voids are found the surface and surroundings are cleaned and cemented property. This checked reactor is allowed is get cured.


REWORKING ON THE REACTOR.


After the complete reactor is lined, cleaned and ground the reactor is worked again with chemically inert polymers. This re-working results in to the filling of micro pores that are opened up in the lining because of grinding of the surface. This also results into good smooth surface `of the reactor which is helpful for obtaining non-stick surface (upto certain extent) which is helpful for the chemical processing as from batch to batch, the total draning of the Reactor is required.

TESTING

The Reactor so lined is offered to the customer for testing that there are no voids in the reactor lined surface. For testing the reactor the complete reactor is filled with water and is allowed to hold the water for few hours. After that, the reactor is drained and steam is applied in the jacket of the reactor and the temperature of reactor is raised to 100 degree centigrades. The reactor is manually seen for any water seepage from the lining.

EXPLANATION

When the reactor is filled with water and allowed to hold the water, the micro holes (if any) are filled with water due to capillary action and hydroscopic nature of Graphite. After that when the reactor is heated all the water that is being absorbed by the lining shall comt, out as sweating on the non stick surface of the reactor which can be visualized manually.
